Hey!!! That's not MY work!! That's NOT what
my tribe believes!! My great grandfather never said THAT!!
Native Artists frequently get misquoted,
work gets misinterpreted, or even worse people just make stuff
up that ends up getting passed along as the "official"
story behind an art piece; or the "authoritative"
story printed in anthropological journals, books and articles;
or get misattributed to the wrong person altogether - a mistake
frozen in time that further perpetuate or cultivate misunderstanding
and ignorance about Native art, culture and people.
Just look through the Native Art listings
on Ebay to see a troubling array of misinformation and ignorance!
In our effort to cultivate an appreciation
for Native American fine art, educate, inform and dispell
misconceptions and stereotypes we publish information here
to clear up common misconceptions.

If you have an issue you'd like to list
here, please contact
us. We prefer to hear from Native artists themselves or
their families. Please be able to verify the information if
you are not a family member.
