Celebration is a biennial dance and culture festival celebrating the Tlingit, Haida and Tsimshian cultures sponsored and organized by the Sealaska Heritage Institute. Since it began in 1982, it has grown into one of the largest events in the state. Dance performances, a juried art show and competition, a Native artist market, and traditional foods make this a wonderful family-oriented cultural and educational event.

The 2008 festival likely will include new activities highlighting traditional Native foods, including contests for the best red ribbon seaweed and the best soapberries in addition to the existing black seaweed contest. The Institute also plans to hold its second Baby Regalia Review since the first review proved popular during Celebration 2006.

The Yakutat Mt. St. Elias Dancers have been chosen to lead Celebration, an honor given to one group each festival.
